Cacao Ceremonies and Ceremonial Cacao: A Gift from Heaven!
Where do Cacao Ceremonies come from?
Cacao ceremonies have been around for thousands of years, dating all the way back to Mayan and Aztec traditions in Central and South America, used for spiritual, medicinal and ceremonial purposes for inner awakening and creative guidance. They use pure cacao as a heart opening remedy for people to safely awaken, but also for revelation and to experience inner healing. Cacao is also used in a sacred medicinal ritual, where intentions are set and once consumed, euphoric states are unlocked, negative emotions are released and one is able to connect with the loving energy in the body.
What is the normal course of a Cacao Ceremony?
The course of a cacao ceremony can vary depending on the facilitator and the group of participants, but here is a general overview of what might happen during a cacao ceremony:
-
Opening Ceremony: The facilitator opens the ceremony by welcoming everyone and explaining the ceremony and what is expected of the participants. There may also be a prayer, statement of intent or blessing to focus the energy.
-
Cacao Ceremony: Participants are given a cup of raw cacao, which may be mixed with other herbs or spices. The facilitator may perform a guided meditation or visualization to help participants focus and get into the right frame of mind.
-
Sharing: After the cacao ceremony, participants may have the opportunity to share what they experienced or felt during the meditation. This can also be an opportunity to connect with other participants and learn from their experiences.
-
Closing Ceremony: The facilitator closes the ceremony by thanking everyone and blessing the energy. There may also be a prayer, declaration of intent or blessing to close the ceremony.
It is important to remember that each cacao ceremony is unique and its course may vary depending on the facilitator and the group of participants.
How long does a Cacao Ceremony last?
The duration of a cacao ceremony can vary depending on the context and the type of ceremony being performed. In general, a cacao ceremony can last anywhere from 1 to 4 hours, depending on the leader and the intention of the ceremony.
Some leaders may offer a shorter ceremony of an hour or less, while others may offer a longer ceremony of several hours. In some ceremonies, cacao may also be combined with other elements, such as music, dance, meditation, or silence, which can affect the length of the ceremony.
It is important to remember that the length of the ceremony is not the most important aspect. It is the intention and process of opening the heart and mind, releasing negative energies and exploring inner experiences and insights that is central to a cacao ceremony.
Who is a Cacao Ceremony suitable for?
A cacao ceremony may be suitable for people who are looking for a spiritual or meditative experience, who want to enhance their emotional or mental well-being, who want to stimulate their creativity, who want to experience a deeper connection with themselves or others, or who are simply interested in exploring the healing properties of cacao.
It is important to remember that a cacao ceremony can be a profound and emotional experience and that it is therefore important to provide a safe and supportive environment and to choose a facilitator who has experience in leading such ceremonies.

Cacao Ceremony Recipe:
Normal usage is 40-50 grams of cocoa paste on a glass of water, heat. (This is what I do myself)
Take 3 to 4 tablespoons of our Cacao Paste. Heat this in water or milk (do not boil).
You can also add herbs and other adaptogens to taste and needs.
For your Cacao Ceremony you can drink this delicious drink as is.
Also drink plenty of water throughout the day. Cocoa can dehydrate you a bit.
What happens during a cacao ceremony?
Cacao ceremonies vary depending on the facilitator (or shaman). People usually sit in a circle and set intentions, pray, sing together with heartfelt music or healing sounds, and then dance ecstatically or share together as a group. It is a fun, uplifting experience in a safe and open community.
What you can experience during a cacao ceremony:
- A spiritual journey of unity, love and ecstasy
- Remove mental blocks, follow your heart
- Finding a connection with your highest self, your own power and truth
- A space to enter into meditation – silencing the mind, connecting with the wisdom and spirit within you.
- A balance of male and female energies in the body
- Improved creativity
A Cacao Ceremony at Home? Here’s How!
A cacao ceremony can also be done at home if you are unable to attend a professionally guided ceremony. Here are some steps you can follow to conduct a cacao ceremony at home:
-
Choose your cacao: Look for high quality, organic raw cacao powder (or paste). Choose a cacao that you like and know you respond well to. It is also possible to use cacao paste or beans, but these are often harder to find (except for Spiruella of course)
-
Set an intention: Just like with a guided ceremony, it can be helpful to set an intention for your home ceremony. This could be something like opening your heart, finding inner peace, or strengthening your creativity.
-
Prepare your space: Create a quiet and comfortable space where you can sit or lie down undisturbed. Decorate the space with candles, flowers or other objects that create a positive and spiritual atmosphere.
-
Prepare your cacao: Follow the instructions on the package to prepare your cacao. You can flavor it with spices like cinnamon, cayenne pepper or vanilla.
-
Meditate: Drink your cacao slowly while focusing on your intention. Meditate as you drink your cacao and sit or lie down while you feel the effects. This can also be a good time to write or draw to record your experiences.
-
Closing: Close your ceremony by thanking yourself for this experience and what you have learned or felt. You may also say a prayer, chant a mantra or light a candle to close the ceremony.
It is important to remember that a cacao ceremony at home may feel different than a professionally guided ceremony. Be sure to trust your own intuition and feelings and give yourself time to relax and explore the experience.

Can you drink ceremonial cacao when pregnant?
Thank you for your time and attention
Love
Hello Annalie, It is generally not recommended that pregnant women attend cacao ceremonies or consume cacao in large amounts during pregnancy, as cacao contains caffeine and theobromine, both of which have stimulating effects on the body and can potentially be harmful to the development of the fetus.
Caffeine and theobromine are substances found in cacao that, in high doses, can increase the risk of miscarriage, preterm birth, and low birth weight. Although cacao ceremonies typically contain smaller amounts of cacao than what is considered a high dose, it is best to exercise caution and consult a health care provider before participating in a cacao ceremony or consuming cacao during pregnancy.
If you do want to attend a cacao ceremony during pregnancy, it is important to limit the amount of cacao you consume and make sure that the cacao you use is of good quality and not contaminated with pesticides or other chemicals that could be harmful to your pregnancy. It is always best to seek medical advice before making any decisions about your diet and lifestyle during pregnancy. I am not a doctor!
A combination of a truffle ceremony with cacao is super powerful! These two ancient natural medicines reinforce each other.
