Moringa oleifera is a tree that originally comes from the Himalayas in northern India. Moringa oleifera literally means 'miracle tree'. However, Moringa oleifera is also called 'pepper root tree', but this has to do with the sharp, bitter taste of the roots. In folk medicine, the leaves, flowers, seeds and roots of the moringa have been used and praised for centuries for a whole range of therapeutic properties.

What is Moringa Oleifera?
Before I move on to the benefits of Moringa, I will first go into more detail about what Moringa exactly is. So that you really understand where the health claims come from. As mentioned, Moringa Oleifera is a tree that is mainly grown in India, on dry sandy soil. The name miracle tree arose because almost all parts, from the roots to the leaves of the tree, are edible, but above all because of the incredibly high nutritional values. In many countries, Moringa Oleifera is used as a micronutrient powder, but the seeds can also be used for many other things. For example, the seeds are also used to purify water, make biodiesel and, because of its enormous nutritional value, also to combat malnutrition in developing countries. So you can very simply say that Moringa Oleifera is a multifunctional superfood for people, animals and the environment.
However, the many health claims are due to the enormous amount of nutrients that Moringa contains. For example, Moringa is rich in minerals such as calcium, chloride, chromium, copper, fluorine, iron, manganese, magnesium, molybdenum, phosphorus, potassium, selenium, sulfur and zinc, but also in vitamins: vitamin A, B-complex (B1, B2, B3, B5, B6 and B11) vitamin C, D, E and K.

2. Beauty: skin, hair and nails*
It is no secret that the active ingredients in Moringa and omega-3 fatty acids have a positive effect on the skin. The active ingredients protect skin cells from damage, which slows down the aging process of the skin in the long term. In addition, the active ingredients help to counteract oxidative stress and the effects of free radicals. Free radicals are unstable molecules that damage collagen, causing the skin to become dry, giving you fine lines and wrinkles and premature aging. Adding a few grams per day to your diet can therefore be very successful if you suffer from dry skin.

You say you use 5 to 10 gr of moringa powder daily but this doesn't say anything. How much is this from a teaspoon?
Hello Maria, a teaspoon is between 1 and 2 grams. Greetings!
I have been using Moringa for 1.5 years and have never felt better than since I started using Moringa. I have rheumatism, but on the advice of the rheumatologist I will continue to use Moringa because my joints remain flexible. My future would be dialysis and this is now off the table because my kidneys have started to work much better, my liver and pancreas also work better, this has been measured in my blood values. Even my vitD which was always around 50 has increased to 72. I walk at least 10,000 steps a day and at first only 1,000 a day. I cannot imagine not using Moringa anymore
That's fantastic news! Thanks for sharing it with us, Jannie!
Does it contain a lot of potassium?
Hello Sonia, Yes, Moringa contains potassium. Potassium is an essential mineral that is important for the proper functioning of the body. It is involved in many bodily processes, such as regulating blood pressure, nerve and muscle function, and maintaining the correct fluid balance in the body.
Moringa is a good source of potassium. The amount of potassium in Moringa varies depending on the source and the form in which it is consumed. In general, Moringa leaves contain about 300 to 400 mg of potassium per 100 grams of dry weight, which is relatively high compared to many other foods.
If you have specific questions about the amount of potassium in Moringa and how it fits into your diet, it is advisable to discuss this with a healthcare provider or dietician. I am not a doctor!
