What is shilajit?

Shilajit is a sticky black-brownish substance that comes from rock layers in high mountain ranges around the world, including the Himalayas, the Tibetan Mountains, and the Altai Mountains. Shilajit was traditionally mined in India and Tibet, but today sources can be found in many countries. SHilajit, also called 'mountain sweat' or 'sweat of the rocks', originated centuries ago, under the influence of the heat of the sun, from the slow decomposition of plants. Application and recommended dosage

Shilajit is best taken by dissolving the powder in a drink (water, milk, tea), yoghurt or smoothie. The time of intake during the day is not really important in this. The maximum recommended daily amount of Shilajit is 500 mg (0.5 grams) per day. However, it is recommended that if you are using Shilajit for the first time, you start with 300 mg (0.3 grams) per day and slowly build up to the recommended dosage. It is important to not to exceed the recommended daily amount and to store the Shilajit in a cool, dry place, and of course out of the reach of children.

    My elderly father has anemia (turned out to be due to blockage of intestinal cancer: now operated and treated) and gets iron pills (once a day) from the GP. Much better. Can he use this in addition and if so, which version?
